Apparently, I Needed an Intervention 😂

Y’all. What. A. Day.

If you saw my video earlier, you already know I started the day convinced I might actually die. 😂 I felt TERRIBLE, and all I could think was, How in the hell am I going to get through today?

Because Tuesdays and Thursdays are helper days.

And y’all know my helper. Well, you don’t actually know her, but ChatGPT knows her as “my helper” because apparently I have talked about this child enough that she has earned her own title around here. 😂

I didn’t have her last week, so there was absolutely no canceling today. I needed her.

Well.

She came over, we started going through everything, and apparently today was also the day for my social media intervention.

And let me tell y’all something: she had NOTES. 😂

Now, in my defense, I already knew some of the things she pointed out. I just haven’t been overly concerned about fixing every little thing right this second.

Since January, my social media has basically been held together with duct tape, prayer, ChatGPT, TikTok and me just pushing buttons until something works.

And somehow… IT HAS WORKED.

One of my videos got 1.2 MILLION views, and I gained about 600 followers from that one video.

So my philosophy has kind of been: Listen, if the crazy train is still picking up passengers, I’m not stopping it at the station just yet. 😂

I knew I had finally hired an actual social media professional to come in and untangle everything, clean everything up, redo the aesthetics, figure out what needs to stay, what needs to go and basically repair the mess that has been building since January, February and March.

That isn’t going to happen overnight. It may take her a month to get everything where it needs to be.

And then it may take me ANOTHER month to figure out what the hell she did.

And that’s okay. 😂

But apparently my helper has decided we are not waiting a month to correct some of my more offensive social media behaviors.

So here are today’s top three violations.

VIOLATION #1: THE DOUBLE-MUSIC DISASTER.

I usually put my videos on TikTok first because TikTok makes my life easier. It adds the words, I can edit things quickly, and then I save it and use it everywhere else.

Great system.

Except sometimes the video already has music.

Or I’m talking.

Or I’ve got my phone volume turned down so low that I forget there’s already sound on the damn thing.

Then I add MORE music.

So now we have me talking, one song playing, another song playing, and apparently everyone watching my video is fighting for their life trying to figure out what they’re supposed to listen to.

I knew this was a problem.

I plead guilty. 😂

VIOLATION #2: I HAVE TO STOP WRITING THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE ON MY STORIES.

Y’all, she basically told me nobody can read all that shit.

And she’s right.

I will take one little Instagram Story slide and try to cram a small novel onto it in 7-point font.

Meanwhile y’all are probably holding your phones three inches from your faces trying to read it.

So we’re done with that.

Short. Sweet. Three lines. Get your attention.

And if I have more to say?

Go read the post.

Apparently Stories are not where I am supposed to publish my memoir. Who knew? 😂

VIOLATION #3: I PUT TOO DAMN MUCH WORDING ON EVERYTHING.

This goes back to me trying not to create the same thing four different times.

Usually I make something for TikTok and then think, Well, hell, I’ve already done the work, and I throw that sucker on Facebook, Instagram and everywhere else.

Except apparently what works on TikTok does not necessarily need to be copied word-for-word onto every platform known to mankind.

Again…

She’s right.

I don’t particularly enjoy saying that three times in one day, but here we are. 😂

She gave me some other insight too, but I think three personal attacks were enough for one Tuesday.

We’ll save the rest of my failures for another day.

The good news is, I LOVE my little helper. And today actually made me realize even more that I don’t want to get rid of her just because I’ve hired a professional.

They serve two completely different purposes.

My helper is good at the things I’m NOT good at. She’s young. She understands technology. She can figure things out in five minutes that would take me three hours, two Diet Dr Peppers and a complete nervous breakdown.

So now I want to figure out how to make her job more remote.

Because here’s another problem with having someone come to my house every Tuesday and Thursday:

I am apparently incapable of guaranteeing that I will actually BE at my house every Tuesday and Thursday.

Life happens. Things come up. My schedule changes.

If we can set things up where she can work remotely and still help me, that’s perfect. She’s a college student. She needs to make money. She has school and loans and her own life, and I want this to continue working for both of us.

And for the first time in a while, I really feel like all of this is starting to come together.

We’re going to clean everything up.

We’re going to fix the aesthetics.

We’re going to simplify.

And eventually, instead of me having two Facebooks, two Instagrams, two TikToks and 47 different places where nobody—including ME—knows where they’re supposed to be, we’re going to get this down to one Facebook, one Instagram and one TikTok for what I’m building.

I AM keeping my personal Facebook.

That isn’t going anywhere.

I still want a place where I can share my thoughts, the things I love, my life, my family, my ridiculous stories and whatever else pops into my head.

But some things are going to move over to my other Facebook page and Instagram.

So I’m going to need y’all to follow me over there too.

And I mean that.

Facebook’s algorithm doesn’t show everybody everything, and as we start reorganizing all of this, you’re going to miss things if you’re only following me in one place.

I’ll make another post specifically about where to follow me because, God knows, this post has already turned into the exact dissertation my helper told me to stop writing. 😂

But before I go…

Dolly died today.

And y’all, my heart is genuinely broken.

I know that probably sounds ridiculous to some people because I didn’t know her. But Dolly Parton has just always felt like one of those people who was supposed to be here forever.

I needed her to live another 20 years.

My grandmother raised me, so that whole world of country music is woven into my childhood. Dolly Parton. Conway Twitty. George Jones. Minnie Pearl. Little Roy. All of them.

Those aren’t just famous names to me.

They’re memories.

They’re sounds from another time in my life.

They’re pieces of my grandmother, my childhood and a world that doesn’t exist quite the same way anymore.

And every time we lose one of those people, it feels like another tiny piece of that world disappears with them.

So today was a lot.

I thought I was dying.

My helper staged an intervention.

I found out I’m apparently doing half of social media wrong.

I finally feel like I’m getting the right people in the right places and moving in the right direction.

And Dolly Parton died.

What a damn day.

But tomorrow we get up, we learn something, we fix a few things, and we keep going.

Just apparently with less music, fewer words and no more dissertations on Instagram Stories. 😂
