Dear Meta… We Need to Talk
Dear Meta… We Need to Talk
Y’all…
I have officially survived what can only be described as the Six-Hour Tour of Technology Hell.
From 7:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m., I was locked in a battle with Meta, AI, my phone, my computer, my sanity… and I still don’t have a solution.
Not one.
Now don’t get me wrong—I love technology… when it actually works. But somewhere along the way, we’ve reached a point where computers are talking to computers, AI is talking to AI, and the only person nobody can find is an actual human being.
At one point Meta told me to delete my apps, log out of Facebook, restart my phone, reinstall everything, stand on one foot, sacrifice my firstborn… okay, maybe not that last one, but it sure felt like it.
So I obediently did everything it told me to do.
Every. Single. Thing.
Then I logged back in, returned to the chat…
…and Meta had apparently suffered complete amnesia.
It had absolutely no idea who I was, what my problem was, or that it had just sent me on a scavenger hunt across every setting on my phone.
So what did it tell me to do?
The exact same thing.
Again.
I wish I were kidding.
It was like arguing with a goldfish that forgot the conversation every eight seconds.
By hour four, I wasn’t even trying to fix Instagram anymore. I was questioning whether society has gone too far with this whole AI thing.
We’ve created a world where billion-dollar companies don’t have a human you can actually talk to.
Can somebody explain that to me?
If my washing machine breaks, I can call someone.
If my air conditioner quits, I can call someone.
If my car won’t start, I can call someone.
But if Instagram decides to have a nervous breakdown? Congratulations! You’re now trapped in an endless loop with a chatbot that keeps asking if you’ve tried turning it off and back on.
Yes, Meta.
I’ve turned it off.
I’ve turned it back on.
I’ve deleted it.
I’ve reinstalled it.
I’ve logged out.
I’ve logged in.
I’ve probably reset something I wasn’t supposed to reset.
And guess what?
My problem is still sitting there looking at me like, “Good luck, sweetheart.”
At this point, I’d settle for a button that simply says:
“Need a real human?”
Click it.
Upload a few screenshots.
Explain what happened.
Then let an actual person look at it whenever they get a chance.
That’s it.
Simple.
Instead, I spent six hours chasing my own tail, accomplishing absolutely nothing except raising my blood pressure and considering whether my phone would bounce if I threw it across the backyard.
Spoiler alert…
My issue still isn’t fixed.
So tomorrow, I’ll probably pour another Diet DP, open my laptop, and start Round Two with Meta.
If you don’t hear from me, send snacks… or tequila … or a therapist.
Actually, send all three.
Until then, if you’ve ever argued with AI, gotten nowhere with customer support, or wanted to launch your phone into another zip code…
Welcome to the club.
I’ll save you a seat.
