Growth Doesn’t Mean I Have to Ignore the Bullshit
Okay y’all, I KNOW what I’m supposed to do. Take the high road. Be the bigger person. Ignore it. Show growth. 😂
And most days, I really do try.
But apparently growth does not mean I have to become a damn saint.
Starting all these new public social media pages has been a little scary for me because I know I’m opening myself up to people I don’t know, opinions I didn’t ask for, and probably some bullshit I’m not prepared for. So far, though, it’s actually been pretty good.
Until I got a notification the other day.
Someone followed my new Facebook page who I used to be friends with—a person who LOVES to stir the pot. And when I say loves it, I mean this woman could stir concrete with a toothpick.
She’s also friends with my ex-husband and his wife, which normally would not bother me one bit. Be friends with whoever you want. I genuinely do not care.
The problem is that historically, information has traveled in BOTH directions. She’d tell me things about them, then go tell them things about me. Back and forth, back and forth.
Ma’am, this is not the Pony Express. Nobody hired you to deliver messages. 😂
Eventually I realized I didn’t want to participate in any of it, so I removed myself from the situation. We’re not friends. I don’t follow her. I don’t check her page. I don’t ask about her. I have absolutely no idea what she’s doing with her life.
And I like it that way.
So imagine my surprise when I see that she has found my BRAND-NEW Facebook and started following me.
Girl.
WHY? 😂
This is the part of social media I genuinely do not understand. If you don’t like somebody, why are you keeping up with them?
If I don’t like you, I promise you I’m not checking on you. You could move to France, marry a prince and start raising llamas and I wouldn’t know unless somebody told me. 😂
Now apparently I have to figure out how to remove followers, because y’all know I barely know how to operate these damn new pages anyway. And then I realized—GOOD LORD—I have Facebook, Instagram, TikTok AND a blog now.
I have to evict people from FOUR properties. 😂
And yes, I know what some of y’all are thinking:
Tammy, ignore it. Be nice. Be the bigger person.
I KNOW.
But sometimes I don’t want to be the bigger person. Sometimes I want to be the medium-sized person with boundaries and a mouth. 😂
And I don’t think that means I haven’t grown.
Growth means I handle things differently than I would’ve ten years ago. It means I don’t have to start a war every time somebody irritates me. It means I can recognize my own mistakes and choose my battles.
But growth does NOT mean I have to pretend I don’t see bullshit when it’s standing directly in front of me wearing a name tag.
So I’ll say exactly what I said on my other Facebook:
I’m genuinely curious—why do people who don’t like you still follow you on social media?
If we aren’t friends, I don’t follow you, I don’t check your page, and I don’t care what you’re doing. It’s really that simple.
So when someone who has already caused drama within your family continues following you just to watch what you post, run back, repeat it, and stir the pot, it becomes painfully obvious what they’re doing. And trust me, other people notice it too.
I’m not wishing anything bad on anyone, and I’m not interested in starting more drama. I’m simply saying this before any nonsense gets started: if you don’t like me, please unfollow me. Watching everything I do just so you can talk about it later doesn’t make me look foolish—it makes you look obsessed.
Let’s all act like grown adults and stay out of spaces where we clearly don’t belong.
