Just a Blog Update
Y’all… I have some good news. Or bad news, depending on who you are. 😂 For some of you, this may be no news at all. And I’m sure there are a few of you thinking, “Oh Lord, she’s bringing us MORE of this train wreck.” 😂
Well… buckle up.
Most of y’all know I started my blog on a complete whim. I cannot tell you how many times over the years people have told me, “You need to write a book,” or “You are so damn funny.” I have literally had people I don’t even know come up to me in public and tell me they love reading my Facebook posts.
So I thought, why not start a blog?
I wanted my own little corner of the internet where I could write the longer, crazier stories that don’t really belong in a Facebook post. Don’t worry—I’m still going to write funny shit on Facebook. 😂 But the longer stories needed somewhere else to live.
What I never intended for this blog to become was a place where I talked about my personal struggles, painful experiences, family shit, hurt feelings, or anything remotely resembling trauma.
That was NOT the plan.
But life apparently didn’t get the memo.
Over this past month, some things have happened that have really bothered me, hurt me, made me think, and honestly made me question a lot of things. One night, I sat down and started writing about it.
Basically, I turned my blog into a journal…
except apparently I’m the kind of person who writes a journal and then lets everybody on the internet read it. 😂
At first, I questioned whether that was a terrible idea.
Because trust me, I am fully aware that people talk shit about me already. 😂 And I thought, Do I REALLY want to hand these people additional material?
I’ve always been a pretty open book, but believe it or not, I actually keep the majority of my real-life drama OFF social media. There are a whole lot of things y’all have never heard about.
But something happened when I finally wrote about some of it.
I felt better.
Like… REALLY better.
Getting it out of my head, putting it into words, and saying the things I had been carrying around felt like somebody took a little weight off my shoulders.
And then something happened that I absolutely wasn’t expecting.
People started reaching out to me.
A LOT of people.
Since most of my blog readers come from Facebook, I’ll usually post there when I write something new. And after I started sharing some of the more personal blogs, the comments started coming—but even more than that, the private messages started coming.
Y’all, I wish I could share every single one of them.
People telling me they understood.
People telling me they had been through something similar.
People telling me something I wrote made them look at their own situation differently.
People telling me, “ME TOO.”
I’m even going to lunch in September with a longtime friend who reached out because she’s dealing with some similar things. She wants to sit down, talk, compare notes, pick my brain—and honestly?
That makes me happy.
Not because she’s struggling. Obviously.
But because maybe there is something good that can come from talking about the things we normally try so hard to hide.
Friday night, I wrote what I genuinely believe is the best blog I’ve written so far. When I finished it and read it back, I felt something I haven’t felt in a while.
My husband would probably call it empowered.
I don’t know if that’s exactly the word I would use…
but damn, I felt GOOD.
And here’s what I’ve finally realized:
I’m 56 years old.
I’ve already lived more than half of my life, and however much time I have left, I want to spend it being okay with ME.
I’m not interested in pretending everything has always been perfect.
I’m not interested in being embarrassed by the things I’ve been through.
I’m not ashamed of the mistakes I’ve made, the things that have hurt me, the things I’ve handled badly, or the things I’m still trying to figure out.
It’s the good, the bad, and the ugly.
And it’s mine.
So here comes the good news—or the bad news for those of you who have had quite enough of me already. 😂
I’m going to keep writing about it.
Not every day. I still have plenty of ridiculous stories and funny shit to tell y’all. But at least once a week—maybe twice if life decides to really show its ass 😂—I’m going to write about something deeper.
Something real.
Something that may have been traumatic to me.
Something I’ve struggled with, learned from, screwed up, survived, or maybe haven’t completely figured out yet.
Because if writing it helps me, I’m going to keep doing it.
And if somewhere along the way something I write makes even two people feel a little less alone in whatever they’re going through?
Then I’m good.
So keep reading. Keep commenting. And PLEASE keep sending me those private messages, because I mean this from the bottom of my heart:
Those messages have become one of my favorite parts of this whole thing. ❤️
Apparently, I started a funny little blog…
and somewhere along the way, it became something a whole lot more important to me.
And I’m actually really excited to see where it goes. ❤️
