Well, y’all… just a little update on my mood.
Well, y’all… just a little update on my mood.
I’ve been in a funk since Saturday, but I can finally say I’m starting to feel like myself again.
One of the biggest things that helped was getting my living room organized so I can film in there instead of my bedroom. Y’all know my bedroom has basically turned into a storage unit, and let’s just be honest… it’s probably never going to look Pinterest-worthy. It is what it is.
You know, it’s funny how life works out.
A few years ago we were getting ready to build a house in Cane Island. We had all these plans, and then everything fell apart with the house, and Welton lost his job.
At the time, it felt like a huge setback.
But looking back? It was probably one of the biggest blessings we’ve ever had.
My husband absolutely hated that job. New management came in, people were getting fired, the boss he loved was gone, and he was miserable. Losing that job forced a change he probably never would’ve made on his own.
Instead of jumping right back into work, he took six months off.
Y’all… we traveled everywhere. Asia for a month, Paris, and several other trips. We got to just enjoy life without the pressure of a huge mortgage hanging over our heads.
And because we never built that house, we didn’t have to worry about making those giant payments while he figured out what was next.
Sometimes the things we think are disasters end up being the biggest blessings.
Now, this little rental? Well… let’s just say she’s serving her purpose.
I’ve got a garage full, a 30x30 storage unit full, and honestly, half the front of this house feels like another storage unit. Most of my furniture is still packed away, but this place has gotten us through a season of life, and I’m thankful for that.
The funny thing is, now I have no idea where I even want to live.
My kids have had babies since we’ve been here, so I thought maybe I’d move closer to them. Then I looked at house prices in town where they liveand almost passed out.
And honestly… do I even want to live that close? Y’all know I already get my feelings hurt enough. I don’t need to be close enough to get my feelings hurt every day.
Then I start thinking maybe I should buy a fixer-upper.
Or better yet… my dream has always been a barndominium. I’ve wanted one forever.
Of course, that probably means moving farther out into the country, and I already feel like I live in the middle of nowhere half the time.
So for now… I don’t know.
And maybe that’s okay.
There’s actually something really peaceful about not feeling pressured to make a decision. We can travel when we want, we’re not tied down to a huge mortgage, and Mr. Frugal is probably sleeping pretty well knowing he’s not writing those giant house payments every month.
Today Rosie and I made a ton of progress around the house. She’ll be gone the rest of the week helping my mother-in-law, so I’ve got plenty to keep me busy before she comes back next week.
Tomorrow my teacher comes, and hopefully we can get a lot accomplished.
The best part of today?
I didn’t feel pressure.
Not from social media.
Not from followers.
Not from trying to figure out the next algorithm.
And guess what?
I still posted.
Imagine that.
I think I’m going to spend some time figuring out other ways to sell my jewelry too. Maybe Facebook Marketplace, some local Katy pages, maybe Memorial… I don’t know yet. We’ll brainstorm tomorrow.
As far as everything else…
I’m still carrying around some hurt.
Some resentment.
And honestly, I know part of it is my own fault.
I’m not ready to talk about all of it yet because I want to see how I feel next week. Sometimes emotions settle down with a little time, and sometimes they don’t.
If they don’t… then I’ll know I need to figure out why.
Because I refuse to spend the rest of my life carrying around things that steal my peace.
On a happier note… I’ve been seeing everybody posting about Restaurant Week, so I guess I need to go eat my way around Houston. Y’all know I’m always up for finding a good restaurant.
And here we are…
August.
My least favorite business month of the entire year.
Every single year it’s slow. Everybody’s finishing vacations, getting kids ready for school, paying tuition, buying books, shopping for school clothes… nobody is thinking about buying Lady Luxury 🤣
It stresses me out every single year.
But I also know it doesn’t last forever.
September starts picking up, and from October through May it’s go time. That’s when the parties start, the holidays kick in, everybody gets dressed up, and I get to see so many people I haven’t seen in months.
I’m already looking forward to Round Top and everything that comes with the fall season.
So I’m choosing to focus on what’s ahead instead of worrying about what’s right in front of me.
Oh… and before I forget…
Lioness is back!
I watched the first episode tonight, and I have one complaint.
Can somebody please explain why movies and TV shows feel the need to kill the dog?
Seriously.
Leave the dogs alone.
Anyway… that’s my random update for today.
Hopefully I’ll get back to being funny soon, but for now, this is just real life.
One more thing before I go…
I know some of y’all are probably wondering why my blogs have gotten so personal lately. That honestly was never my intention. When I started this blog, I pictured it being full of funny stories, everyday life, and all the crazy things that seem to happen to me. I never planned on sharing the deeper stuff.
But sometimes life has other plans.
Writing these blogs has become surprisingly therapeutic for me. It’s almost like journaling, except I’m letting y’all come along for the ride. My hair guy told me today that journaling helped him through a lot, and maybe that’s exactly what this has become for me.
So if you enjoy reading along, I’m really grateful you’re here. And if this isn’t your thing, I completely understand. Hopefully before long I’ll be back to making y’all laugh more than making y’all think.
Until then, thank you for letting me write my way through this season of life.
XOXO.
