Dear Health Nuts… We Can Still Be Friends

Y’all… I was supposed to be asleep like an hour ago, but apparently my brain said, “Absolutely not.” 😂

So here’s tonight’s random thought…

I have one of the sweetest friends in the entire world. I love this woman to death. If I need help figuring something out, she’s my girl. She’s always there for me. She would give you the shirt off her back, and she genuinely cares about people.

Now… she’s also the healthiest human being I’ve ever met. 😂

This woman reads every nutrition label, knows every ingredient, can pronounce words I’ve never even heard of, and somehow knows exactly what’s trying to kill us all. She sends me articles. She talks about obesity. She talks about processed foods. She talks about seed oils. She talks about all the things.

And every time she does, I smile because I know she’s coming from a place of love.

But…

I have a confession.

I LOVE FOOD.

Not “I like food.”

I. LOVE. FOOD.

Y’all know I’ve eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world. I’ve eaten at Michelin-star restaurants. I’ve also eaten at McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Whataburger, Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell… and if there’s a drive-thru somewhere, there’s a pretty good chance I’ve been through it.

I don’t discriminate. 😂

Now, there are a few things I draw the line at.

Beef liver and onions? Absolutely not.

My grandma used to order that every single time we’d go to Luby’s, and I just knew one day she was going to convince me to try it.

She did.

She was wrong.

I still don’t like it. 😂

I’m not a big lima bean fan either. Beans in general? Meh.

Anchovies? Sardines? I’ll try them once because I’m curious, but if I don’t like something, I’m not forcing myself to eat it ever again.

Life’s too short.

Now let me paint y’all a picture.

Right beside my bed is a stash of candy bars.

In my outside refrigerator? Enough Diet Dr Pepper to survive a natural disaster.

I probably drink four to six Diet Dr Peppers a day.

I love Nutty Bars.

I love cereal.

I love chips.

Basically, if a five-year-old packed my grocery cart… I’d probably be thrilled. 😂

And here’s the part that’s probably going to get me in trouble…

I’m not changing.

I’m just not.

I’m not saying anyone else should eat like I do. Lord knows I’m probably the last person who should be giving nutrition advice. 😂

If eating healthy makes you feel amazing, then I am genuinely happy for you. Seriously.

But me?

I’m going to enjoy my Diet Dr Pepper.

I’m going to eat my candy.

I’m going to order dessert.

I’m going to try every restaurant I can find.

I’m going to travel.

I’m going to laugh too loud.

I’m going to spoil my grandbabies.

I’m going to spend time with the people I love.

I’m going to wear the outfit.

I’m going to buy the perfume.

I’m going to live my life.

I truly believe that when my time comes, my time comes. That’s in God’s hands, not mine.

Now, before somebody twists my words… no, I’m not going to go play in traffic or do something ridiculous. 😂 I’m not talking about making reckless choices.

I’m just saying I’m not going to spend the rest of my life afraid of every ingredient, every calorie, or every bite of food that brings me joy.

Life is way too precious for me to spend it worrying every single day.

So if you’re one of my healthy friends, please know I love y’all. I really do. Keep sharing your recipes. Keep taking care of yourselves. Keep cheering people on.

Just don’t be offended if I read your message while eating a Nutty Bar and washing it down with a Diet Dr Pepper.

I promise… we’ll still be friends. 😂
